This book begins with God, the Creator of the world and all things that are in it. In His infinite wisdom, He created everything humankind would need before He created the first man and then woman. In all of His creations, He made no mistakes. When He created man and woman, He created them in his own image which made them perfect and placed them in a perfect environment. Everything changed when they sinned against God
God created the first people to be freewill agents. Among other attributes, they were able to think for themselves, they had the ability to reason and they were creative. Although God wanted them to obey His commands, He would not force them to do so. They had the choice to obey or disobey God. Their choice to disobey Him allowed sin to invade their perfect lives and they became sinners. As a result of their sin, all persons since them are born in sin.

Because of God’s love for humankind, you will see the spiritual processes that God has afforded to us His people as we are transformed from sinners to saints, saved only by His grace and mercy. As God’s people, we must daily deal with the temptations to sin. On the other hand, we also know that God is faithful and just to forgive us for all of our sins.
This is only done through making Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior. Ultimately, being filled with the Holy Spirit, and living according to God’s holy word, we look forward for the return of Jesus Christ who is coming to judge the world. As Christians, we will spend eternity with God in glorified bodies and living in perfect peace and love.
Attending church or some other place of worship is very important in the life of a Christian and is also what God expects of believers. And so on Sunday morning all over the world, people get dressed to attend church or some other place of worship. According to their choices as well as what they can afford, some come “all dressed up,” some come “dressed down” and some come “ as they are.” This is to say, the outward appearance of a person is no indicator as how spiritual he or she might be because God looks at the heart of the person.

Throughout the Bible, God’s Holy Word, we find that God Himself established
principles and doctrines for His people to live by but there was never a dress code
for worship services. When He instituted the priesthood in order to teach the
people how to serve Him, He told Moses to make special garments for them. The
outfits were quite elaborate, but most of all sacred and were used for ministering
in the sanctuary. In the New Testament, the apostle Paul addressed the issue of
what women should wear to church when he taught on worship. He wanted their
focus to be on Christ like character rather than outward appearance. Christian
character speaks volumes over outward appearances.
This book informs the reader that God wants His people to get rid of everything
that belonged to their earthly nature and put on new thoughts and practices that
are of their new nature; those things that represents Him. The apostle Paul stated
specifically that all believers should rid themselves of things of the world and
clothe (put on) themselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and
patience, bear with each other, forgive, and most of all love one another.
Christians are not called to be church members, but to be disciples of Jesus Christ.

In Dressed for Church on Sunday Morning by Zadia Tyson, growing up in the South in the forties and fifties, the author always believed in attending church each Sunday wearing only the finest items of clothing. However, when she began teaching at a local Sunday school, she quickly realized that the church was a place to nurture your relationship with God and Jesus Christ and your outward appearance was of secondary importance. Discover why it is more important that you are clothed in compassion, kindness, humility, and love, not finery. The book offers guidance to truly experience the presence of God, and to live a life that is authentic to your faith. By understanding the origins of the church and the moral traits you must possess to bring you closer to God, you will gain a clear vision of your spiritual path. Transform your faith, spirituality and relationship with God and become a Christian that worships from the heart.
Dressed for Church on Sunday Morning by Zadia Tyson takes a refreshing, unique look at faith and will inspire you to take another look at the teachings of the Bible. The guide is full of passages from the Bible that reinforce the message that your attendance in church is just a small part of being a true Christian. I loved the section on worship and prayer; it was so uplifting. I also appreciated how the author cuts through all the finery and gets straight into the core beliefs and actions a Christian must possess. After reading this book, I came to the conclusion that many people who believe they are Christians are not acting in accordance with what God expects. I agree totally that a person’s outward appearance has no spiritual value. But it is also full of encouraging words to people who have lost their faith to establish a new relationship with God and Jesus Christ. A relationship that is solid, meaningful, and nurturing. The acronym of BIBLE – ‘basic instructions before leaving earth’ – was a perfect summary. I loved this in-depth no-nonsense guide because it advocates for Christians to be encouraging, non-judgmental to others, kind, compassionate, and forgiving. I chose this quote from the book as it sums up the essence of the book perfectly: “These people honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me; they worship me in vain.” (Matthew 15:8-9a)
